Disaster Management Plans – North East District

Disaster Management Plans (DM Plans) are essential instruments for ensuring a systematic, coordinated, and effective response to disasters. The North East District of Delhi is vulnerable to various natural and man-made hazards, including earthquakes, floods, fire incidents, industrial accidents, and extreme weather events. In view of these risks, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), North East District has prepared and regularly updates a set of Disaster Management Plans in accordance with the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and guidelines issued by NDMA and GNCT of Delhi.

Importance of Disaster Management Plans

Disaster Management Plans play a critical role in reducing disaster risks and minimizing loss of life and property. These plans:

Provide a clear framework for preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery
Define roles and responsibilities of district authorities, line departments, and stakeholders
Ensure effective coordination among government agencies and emergency responders
Facilitate timely decision-making and resource mobilization during emergencies
Strengthen community resilience and institutional preparedness
Enable better planning for relief, rehabilitation, and restoration after disasters

Well-prepared DM Plans help the district administration respond swiftly and efficiently, thereby reducing the impact of disasters on communities.

Disaster Management Plans Prepared by DDMA North East & DSDMA

The DDMA North East& DSDMA has prepared the following Disaster Management Plans to address various disaster scenarios within the district:

District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP)
Off-Site Emergency Plan (Industrial / Chemical Emergencies)
Flood Management Plan
Heat Wave Action Plan etc.
These plans are reviewed and updated periodically to incorporate lessons learned from past incidents, mock exercises, and evolving risk scenarios.

Implementation and Review

DDMA North East conducts capacity-building programmes, mock drills, training sessions, and community awareness activities to ensure effective implementation of these plans. Regular review and updating of DM Plans help maintain preparedness and improve response efficiency during disasters.
